Zumba is a workout experience that has truly changed the quality of my life! I've never has so
much fun while still getting a terrific workout! The music is fast and lively so you can't help
but want to join in immediately. The other students are friendly and enthusiastic - and why
not? They're doing Zumba!
I'm now doing Zumba twice a week and wish I could add a 3rd time per week. I have toned
up so much, feel great, have an abundance of energy and have even lost a pants-size. People
at work have noticed the change, saying they can tell I've lost inches. Many people have
commented on how great my posture has gotten (thanks to the huge amount of core-
strengthening Zumba movements Dale incorporates into the choreography).
Dale recommended that I follow the nutritional program outlined in the book, "Eating for
Life". Since following that and participating in his classes, I have lost 10 lbs. of body fat. My
husband likes it too and has lost 20 lbs.
Zumba has certainly changed my life for the better - just the terrific energy I have now on a
daily basis is unbelievable. Dale makes his classes fun every time. He insists that you smile
and keep moving without worrying about "doing it right"! He makes everyone feel welcomed
and at ease.

I was introduced to Dale's Zumba class in 2008 after I had lost about 40 pounds. Even at 218
I was still having problems moving around due to arthritis and of course, being out of shape, I
couldn't even touch my knees without hurting. When I was younger I danced to keep my
weight down so when I heard about Zumba, I thought I would give it a try.
When I started I was in a size 18 pant and 2X shirts. After 6-months of two Zumba classes a
week, I was down to 185 lbs, but the most exciting thing is I can actually get into a size 12
pant and large or XL shirt! Even my doctor was in shock on how great I looked.
I can touch my toes now and I have more energy to do things. Other people have taken
notice of the difference in my body and ask what I'm doing. I tell them that I am watching
what I eat, but the change has really come from doing Zumba. It's not an exercise, it's the
movement that makes you want to dance; it's the music and dancing that makes you want to
move! Zumba has given me back my spirit and pride in myself. Since Dale is a Ballroom
dancer, he really knows the rhythm to the music and makes learning the basics simple and fun.

Dale makes my workouts fun. I am able to sleep better now and have more endurance.

Let me begin by telling you that I am a 55 year old female whose level of exercise was a 2 mile
hike on the occasional weekend and yard work. That’s it! I’ve never been a gym rat, in fact, I
hate the gym. I have a BowFlex and an Elliptical machine which work well to hang clothes on.
Over the past several years, my Glucose levels (A1C blood test) has been between 5.9 and 6.3
(less than 6.0 is considered non-Diabetic). My triglycerides and cholesterol have been climbing
as well with each year’s physical.
When my last blood work came back in July 2009 my doctor said that was it, I need to be on
a Type II Diabetic medication. I resisted as always, begging him to give me “another 3
months” in which I promised to exercise daily, eat better, drink less wine, and lose weight. But
I just couldn’t get motivated to DO ANYTHING!!!
I just kept wishing I could find some kind of exercise or dance class that I would actual ENJOY
doing. Then, in late December, we were at a Holiday Dinner and the hostess (who looked
fabulous) told me about Zumba after telling her she looked great and asked what she was
doing to stay so slim and fit. She was from Columbia, where Zumba began. She said it was
wonderful and fun and I should come to a class with her or find one in my area. Well, the
next day I went online to Zumba.com and plugged in my zip code to see what classes were
available near me. I found Dale and the rest is history; I was hooked!!!!
My first Zumba class was January 8th, 2010. Within SIX WEEKS I had lost 8 lbs., and I was
only doing it 2 to 3 times a week. I was greatly encouraged to say the least.
My Glucose is still too high but I’m working on it and confident that it will be under 6.0 in no
time at all thanks to Zumba, and Dale’s coaching. He recommended an eating program for me
so I can learn how to EAT to be healthy as opposed to “dieting”. I bought the Zumba DVD’s
and can do it at home if I choose, but the Camaraderie you experience when attending Dale’s
classes is so inspiring that I never want to miss a class. Dale makes it really fun and always
has a big smile on his face which is of course contagious. He is easy to follow in the steps and
always reminds us there is no “right or wrong” way, but just keep moving.
Some days when I don’t “feel” like going, I go anyway and I am ALWAYS so glad I did. I feel
so energized and euphoric after class. I must admit, I never feel drained, always the opposite.
When on hikes on the weekends before starting Zumba, I often found myself out of breath
and having trouble keeping up, but now I keep up and never have to stop and “catch my
breath.” I have FINALLY found a workout that I absolutely LOVE and for this reason, I know I
will continue in it indefinitely! I would like to work up to doing it everyday. I can honestly say
that finding Dale and Zumba may have saved my life…..or at least added several more years to
my life expectancy.

I have suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years, a very painful disorder. My doctor
told me the more I exercise and move, the better I would feel. Two years ago I began taking
Zumba classes with Dale at the House of Dance. In the beginning everything was a challenge
and I was exhausted by the fourth song. Dale encouraged me not to give up, to do what I can
and let my body slowly adapt. After several weeks I noticed that I was starting to make it
through the whole hour without having to stop. I was still exhausted at the end of class, but it
is a good exhausted feeling.
For the first year Dale didn't know about my R.A. until one day he noticed me holding my
hand in pain. He gave me a bottle of Therapain Plus and told me to go into the bathroom and
spray it on four times, rubbing it in. I followed his instructions and started the class. Ten
minutes into the class he asked me how my hand was feeling. I realized right then, that the
pain was gone and I could move my hand around. I was able to enjoy the class. Two years
later, I have learned the basic dance steps for Zumba and can make it through the entire hour
with little rest. The most important factor of all is that when I am in Dale's Zumba class I feel
good; my arthritis doesn't hurt. And since I started I have fewer episodes of really bad days.
Dale is always scanning the room looking for signs of anyone who might be showing signs of
trauma. Since he has had many surgeries he knows what is to be in pain and find ways to
lessen it. He cares about the people in his classes and makes every class fun!
